Research Assistant (Since 2020)

Short personal description: Johannes Heinzel earned his medical degree from the Medical University of Vienna in 2019, having conducted parts of his studies at the University of Heidelberg, the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) and the University of Pennsylvania (USA). From 2015 until he joined the Department of Hand, Plastic, Reconstructive and Burn Surgery in 2020 he has been a research associate at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology in Vienna, working on several in vivo studies of peripheral nerve repair and regeneration. He is currently waiting to defend his doctoral thesis in early 2022. Heading the laboratories in vivo research, his research focuses on the improvement of peripheral nerve regeneration and treatment of sequala of peripheral nerve injuries.
